Tanzanian, UK traders register on digital platform to boost economic ties

The platform provides legal guidance and business support to new entrants, entrepreneurs and investors seeking to operate between Tanzania and the UK

Dar es Salaam. More than 6,000 business operators from Tanzania and the United Kingdom have registered on the Tanzania Link Portal, a newly launched digital platform designed to enhance trade, investment, education, tourism and employment collaboration between the two countries.

The portal – an initiative by three UK-based Tanzanians, Mr Goodluck Mboya, Mr Joseph Ndilla and Ms Shivani Patel – aims to connect local entrepreneurs and professionals with diaspora communities and international partners to unlock cross-border opportunities.

The portal can be accessed at www.tanzanialink.co.uk.

Officially launched in April 2025 by Zanzibar President, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, at a high-level ceremony in London, Tanzania Link has already generated significant interest.

The launch event brought together key dignitaries including Tanzania’s High Commissioner to the UK, Mr Mbelwa Kairuki, First Lady of Zanzibar, Mama Mariam Mwinyi, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Cosato Chumi, and former Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, among others.

Speaking at the event, Mr Ndilla, the platform’s Business Director, said the enthusiastic reception signals strong demand for structured engagement between Tanzanian and British business communities.

“Through Tanzania Link, we are facilitating access to investment prospects, joint ventures, international markets, and employment openings in various sectors. We are also helping Tanzanians obtain accurate information about scholarships and academic exchange programmes,” said Mr Ndilla.

He added that the platform provides legal guidance and business support to new entrants, entrepreneurs and investors seeking to operate between Tanzania and the UK.

It also promotes Tanzania’s tourism attractions, including those in Zanzibar, to British travellers.

Technical director, Mr Goodluck Mboya, described Tanzania Link as more than a digital platform, calling it a “strategic bridge” connecting people, ideas and capital.

“This is a patriotic innovation with a global vision. It is a symbol of unity among Tanzanians worldwide in the collective effort to build an inclusive economy. In practice, we are contributing to the economic diplomacy agenda championed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Mr Mboya said.

For his part, Tanzania’s High Commissioner to the UK, Mr Kairuki, said the portal aligns well with the government’s policy direction to promote economic diplomacy and foster international cooperation.

“The High Commission warmly welcomes this initiative and will continue working closely with its founders to ensure the platform’s success for the benefit of Tanzanians and their development partners,” he said.
