The Tanzanian Head of State's visit follows a special invitation extended by President Daniel Francisco Chapo of the Republic of Mozambique

Maputo. President Samia Suluhu Hassan arrived in Maputo on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, for a two-day official visit during which she is expected to grace Mozambique’s 50th Independence Day celebrations as Guest of Honour.

The Tanzanian Head of State touched down at Maputo International Airport in the afternoon, where she was received by senior Mozambican government officials. Her visit follows a special invitation extended by President Daniel Francisco Chapo of the Republic of Mozambique.

President Samia’s participation underscores the enduring bond between the two countries, whose historical ties date back to the era of Africa’s liberation struggles. Tanzania played a pivotal role in supporting Mozambique’s fight for independence from Portuguese colonial rule, which was finally attained on June 25, 1975.

The golden jubilee celebrations will be held at Machava Stadium in the capital, Maputo, on Wednesday, June 25, and are expected to draw dignitaries and heads of state from across the region and beyond.

President Samia’s attendance reaffirms Tanzania’s continued commitment to regional solidarity, peace, and mutual prosperity through strong diplomatic and people-to-people relations.

Her visit also marks another chapter in the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, infrastructure, energy, and security.
