Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has congratulated Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) for securing their 31st Tanzania Mainland Premier League title, marking an impressive fourth consecutive triumph in domestic football.
In a message shared through her official accounts on X and Facebook, the President, who is in a two-day state visit in Mozambique, applauded the club’s historic feat and underscored the role of football in uniting and entertaining Tanzanians and fans across the region.
“Congratulations to Yanga for winning their 31st Premier League title and the fourth in a row,” she wrote. “For over 85 years, the rivalry between Yanga and Simba has remained a source of entertainment for millions of fans within and beyond our borders. Keep entertaining us.”
The congratulatory message followed Yanga’s decisive 2-0 win over arch-rivals Simba SC in a highly anticipated Kariakoo Derby played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
The match, witnessed by a capacity crowd, saw Ivorian winger Pacome Zouzoua open the scoring from the penalty spot in the 67th minute after he was fouled in the box by Simba goalkeeper Moussa Camara.
Substitute Clement Mzize sealed the victory with a late strike, confirming Yanga’s status as 2024/25 league champions.
The win not only handed Yanga their fourth consecutive league title but also cemented their dominance in Tanzanian football, amid a resurgence that has extended to continental competitions under the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Founded in 1935, Yanga continues to enjoy a storied rivalry with Simba SC, with the Kariakoo Derby standing as one of the most passionate and closely followed football clashes on the African continent.
This season’s league success adds another chapter to Yanga’s growing legacy, reinforcing their influence both on the pitch and in the broader sporting culture of the region.
