Dar es Salaam. The ministry of Energy has said it is currently implementing seven of the 17 flagship projects being carried out across the country, marking steady progress in strategic investments that are set to transform Tanzania’s energy landscape.
Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, made the revelation on August 17, 2025, during the launch of the Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) initiative, which targets areas along the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
He named the projects as the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant (JNHPP), the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, oil exploration projects, the Rumakali and Ruhudji hydropower projects, and oil exploration in the Mnazi Bay North block.
According to Eng. Mramba, the Julius Nyerere hydropower project, with a capacity of 2,115 megawatts, has been completed and is already contributing electricity to the national grid.
He explained that EACOP has reached 65 percent completion and is nearing its final phase, while the LNG project is at its concluding stages of preparation.
For Rumakali and Ruhudji, he said feasibility studies have been completed.
On financing, he revealed that Tanzania has already injected Sh1.12 trillion into the EACOP as part of its equity contribution, while over 200 local companies contracted under the project will collectively be paid Sh1.325 trillion for their services.
Eng. Mramba further noted that, in addition to economic benefits, communities located along power transmission lines serving EACOP will gain access to electricity connections, broadening the impact of the project beyond oil transport.
