Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has said that its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train services have resumed and are operating as usual following an early-morning derailment near Ruvu station.

The press statement, issued today, October 23, 2025, announced the restoration of services and included an apology to passengers for the disruption.

“The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) would like to inform the public that SGR train travel services have resumed and are proceeding as usual,” reads the statement, which was signed by Fredy Mwanjala, Head of the Communication and Public Relations Unit.

The statement further said that the “Corporation apologises” to its customers for the inconvenience caused and thanks them for their patience.

“Providing better service for our customers is the Corporation’s priority,” the statement says.

The incident involved an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train travelling from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma around 8:00 am, where three carriages were derailed due to an operational error.

A press statement issued today confirms that no passengers or crew members died.

Following the incident, TRC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, launched a comprehensive investigation.

A high-level team led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and the TRC Managing Director, together with technical experts and security personnel, is examining the circumstances surrounding the derailment to ensure that similar incidents are prevented in the future.
