Bahrain. It is Tanzania again, stealing the spotlight at the 32nd World Travel Awards (WTA 2025), held at Bahrain’s Exhibition World Center on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
The country clinched the title of “World’s Leading Safari Destination” for the second consecutive year, underscoring its sustained investment in wildlife conservation, tourism infrastructure, and global destination marketing.
Described as the “Oscars” of global tourism, the WTA grand final attracted over 500 government officials and industry practitioners.
Tanzania’s success at such a prestigious platform reflects its ability to meet international standards and maintain a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving global tourism market.
It was a triple triumph for the country, highlighting the diversity and quality of Tanzania’s tourism offerings.
Zanzibar led the way by claiming the World MICE Awards for Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination, signaling the region’s growing appeal in niche markets that generate higher-value tourism revenue.
Meanwhile, the Serengeti, home to the iconic wildebeest migration, was named the World’s Leading National Park 2025, demonstrating the global impact of Tanzania’s conservation and management practices, according to a press release shared with the media.
The private sector also played a significant role in the country’s success.
Serengeti Balloon Safaris earned the title of World’s Leading Balloon Ride Operator, highlighting how high-end experiential tourism attracts international visitors.
Jumaira Thanda Resort on Mafia Island won the Best Private Island Resort Award, emphasizing the potential of Tanzania’s coastal and island destinations to boost tourism revenue while promoting sustainable practices.
Commenting on the awards, Dr Hassan Abbasi, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, said the accolades recognize the combined efforts of government and private stakeholders in promoting responsible tourism and conservation.
He added that such collaboration is critical in reinforcing Tanzania’s global tourism brand and sustaining long-term economic growth.
Having won the award for the second consecutive year, Tanzania is well-positioned to leverage its global recognition to attract further investment, strengthen its tourism portfolio, and consolidate its status as the world’s premier safari and luxury destination.
Hosting the next WTA grand final in 2026 will provide an additional platform to showcase the country’s tourism infrastructure and achievements.
Previously, Tanzania was also named Africa’s Leading Safari Destination in 2025, reflecting a sustained trajectory of excellence and strategic investment in the tourism sector.
