Simba, Yanga fined millions over league incidents

Both clubs Simba and Yanga were each fined Sh5 million for bringing the game into disrepute

The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has issued disciplinary measures against clubs, players and match officials following several incidents that occurred during recent competitive fixtures, including the Kariakoo derby played last weekend in Zanzibar.

In decisions announced on March 6, 2026, Simba SC received a number of penalties related to incidents that took place in different league matches.

During their match against Dodoma Jiji FC, Simba were fined Sh5 million after their supporters threw water bottles at a Dodoma Jiji player as well as Red Cross first-aid personnel while they were carrying out their duties on the pitch.

In the Kariakoo derby against Young Africans (Yanga) at Amaan Stadium, Simba were also fined Sh5 million for entering the field of play through an unofficial entrance.

The club received another Sh5 million fine after refusing to use the designated dressing room and instead using the press conference room before the match.

Additionally, members of Simba’s security team were involved in a scuffle with Yanga security guards when the team arrived at the stadium.

As a result, both clubs Simba and Yanga were each fined Sh5 million for bringing the game into disrepute.

On the players’ side, Simba striker Seleman Mwalimu has been suspended for three matches and fined Sh1 million for elbowing a Dodoma Jiji player during their league encounter.

Simba player David Kameta has also been fined Sh1 million after he was seen pouring a liquid on the pitch before the match against Yanga, an act interpreted as being linked to superstitious practices.

Meanwhile, some match officials involved in the derby have also faced sanctions.

Assistant referee Kassim Mpanga has been suspended for six months for disallowing a legitimate Simba goal, while assistant referee Hamdan Said has been suspended for three months for misinterpreting the offside law.

Apart from Simba and Yanga, other clubs and officials have also been penalised.

Dodoma Jiji FC were fined Sh5 million after first-aid personnel delayed entering the pitch several times during their match against Simba, an action considered time-wasting.

The club received another Sh5 million fine for making four substitutions instead of the three permitted under the competition regulations.

Dodoma Jiji player Abdi Banda has been suspended for three matches and fined Sh1 million for jumping off a stretcher in an attempt to waste time. Fourth official Charles Simon has been suspended for three months for allowing the four substitutions contrary to the rules.

Referee Abdallah Mwinyimkuu has been demoted after failing to properly interpret the laws of the game during the match between Namungo FC and Young Africans.
