Okello fires Yanga back to the top

The in-form midfielder found the net for the fourth consecutive league match, becoming the first Yanga player ever to score the opening goal in four straight league fixtures a remarkable achievement that underlines his growing influence at Jangwani

Allan Okello produced yet another masterclass as Yanga cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over Singida Black Stars today, May 22, 2026 sending the defending champions back to the summit of the Mainland Premier League while the Ugandan star etched his name into the club’s history books.

The in-form midfielder found the net for the fourth consecutive league match, becoming the first Yanga player ever to score the opening goal in four straight league fixtures a remarkable achievement that underlines his growing influence at Jangwani.

Played at the KMC Complex on May 22, the victory lifted Yanga to 57 points, two ahead of arch-rivals Simba, who now sit second with 55 points.

Okello opened the scoring in the 13th minute, setting the tone for another dominant Yanga performance and extending a sensational run that has made him the club’s most talked-about player in recent weeks.

The Ugandan international first began the streak on May 6 against KMC, where his solitary strike secured a narrow 1-0 victory shortly before the departure of former coach Pedro.

In Yanga’s first match under acting head coach Abdihamid Moalin, Okello delivered another outstanding display by scoring twice and registering an assist against Coastal Union.

On May 13, despite Yanga suffering their first league defeat of the season a dramatic 3-2 loss to Dodoma Jiji at Airtel Stadium in Singida Okello once again netted a brace, though his efforts proved insufficient to rescue the team.

Determined to bounce back from that disappointment, Yanga looked sharp and aggressive from the opening whistle against Singida BS, particularly in attack.

After conceding early, Singida BS head coach Muhibu Kanu made a surprising tactical decision in the 23rd minute, substituting goalkeeper Metacha Mnata for Amas Abasogie.

Mnata appeared visibly frustrated with the change and had to be calmed down by teammates before leaving the pitch.

However, the switch failed to stop Yanga’s momentum as Mudathir Yahya doubled the lead in the 41st minute, giving the visitors a comfortable 2-0 advantage at half-time.

Yanga returned strongly after the break, introducing Mohammed Damaro for Pacome Zouzoua to reinforce the midfield as Singida attempted to fight their way back into the contest.

The hosts also made attacking changes, bringing on Chikola for Lamine Jarjou to add pace on the flanks, but Yanga remained firmly in control throughout the second half.

In the 62nd minute, Prince Dube made way for Depu as Yanga continued to rotate their attacking options.

Moments later, with Singida pushing numbers forward in search of a comeback, Okello struck again to complete the rout and cap another brilliant individual display.

The brace sees Okello level with Prince Dube on Yanga’s scoring charts this season despite only arriving during the mid-season transfer window. Alongside his goals, he has also contributed seven assists.

According to league statistics, Okello has now achieved another rare milestone by scoring braces in three consecutive league matches a feat unmatched by any other player in the division this season.
