Chelsea are under increasing pressure after suffering another defeat, losing 1–0, April 18, 2026 to Manchester United.
The result has intensified frustration among fans, who protested before the match and continued chanting during the game.
Chelsea have now lost four consecutive Premier League matches without scoring — their worst run since 1912.
Head coach Liam Rosenior admitted the team faces a “mountain to climb” in their bid to qualify for the Champions League.
They are currently four points behind the top five, having played more games than their rivals.
Missing out on Champions League qualification would be a major disappointment, both financially and competitively.
Struggles on the pitch
While earlier criticism focused on defence and goalkeeping, the main issue now is Chelsea’s attack. The team has gone over six hours without scoring in the league.
Despite having time to train, results have not improved. Losses to both Manchester City and Manchester United have worsened their form, and hopes that the international break would reset performances have not materialized.
Is the manager safe?
Although results have declined, club leadership has publicly supported Rosenior.
Co-owner Behdad Eghbali stated that the club believes in him long-term.
However, patience may run thin if performances do not improve.
Chelsea fans are known for expecting quick results, especially given the club’s history under former owner Roman Abramovich.
Fan protests and ownership criticism
Frustration is not only directed at the coach but also at the club’s ownership, including Todd Boehly and Eghbali. Protests have grown in size, with fans criticizing the club’s direction and decisions.
The owners have acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly adding experienced players to balance the squad.
Financial concerns
Since the 2022 takeover, Chelsea have spent around £1.5 billion on players.
Despite selling players to recover funds, the club still faces financial pressure and scrutiny from UEFA.
Failure to qualify for the Champions League would worsen the situation, as it would reduce income from broadcasting, sponsorships, and ticket sales.
Player Cole Palmer even admitted: “If we’re not in the Champions League, everything changes.”
With only a few matches remaining, Chelsea’s season is at risk of collapsing at a crucial moment.
Pressure is mounting on the manager, the players, and the ownership, while fans grow increasingly frustrated.
The coming games will be critical in determining whether Chelsea can recover or face another disappointing season.
