The meeting forms part of ongoing engagements between the government and strategic partners aimed at consolidating Tanzania’s position as a reform-oriented state committed to peace and inclusive development

Dar es Salaam. President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has received a delegation from the African Female Leaders Network (AFLN) at the State House in Dar es Salaam, in a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening cooperation in governance, peacebuilding and women’s leadership.

The delegation comprised former Heads of State and senior women leaders drawn from across Africa and global institutions.

Among those present were former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, and other prominent representatives of continental leadership networks.

During the meeting, the visiting leaders commended Tanzania for progress made in restoring law and order following the unprecedented events associated with the 2025 General Election.

They acknowledged the government’s efforts to stabilise the country, safeguard national unity and restore normal economic and social activities.

The delegation also recognised Tanzania’s long-standing reputation as a pillar of peace, stability and reconciliation within Africa.

They praised President Samia’s leadership in guiding the country through a challenging period while preserving institutional integrity and maintaining public order.

In their discussions, the leaders underscored the importance of sustained reforms to strengthen democratic governance and reinforce accountability.

They further highlighted the need to promote inclusive participation across all levels of society, particularly by expanding opportunities for women to take part in decision-making processes.

The visiting delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tanzania in mentoring the next generation of African women leaders.

They emphasised the significance of institutionalising clear pathways that enable women to access leadership roles and succeed within them.

Such efforts, they noted, are essential for nurturing resilient and inclusive governance systems across the continent.

President Samia expressed appreciation for the visit and the constructive dialogue held during the meeting.

“I reaffirm the government’s commitment to strengthening peace, unity and social cohesion, while continuing with governance and institutional reforms designed to enhance national stability,” she said.

She further stated that Tanzania would continue expanding opportunities for women and young people to assume leadership responsibilities.

According to the President, these efforts would be guided by democratic values, inclusiveness and sustainable development goals.

President Samia also emphasised Tanzania’s intention to maintain engagement with stakeholders at national, regional and global levels.

She noted that such cooperation remains vital in advancing reform agendas and reinforcing the country’s reputation as a stable and forward-looking nation.

The meeting forms part of ongoing engagements between the government and strategic partners aimed at consolidating Tanzania’s position as a reform-oriented state committed to peace and inclusive development.

The African Female Leaders Network, supported by the African Union and the United Nations, brings together current and former women leaders to advance women’s leadership, peacebuilding and governance initiatives across Africa.
