Tanzania’s delegation is led by Electricity and Renewable Energy Commissioner, Innocent Luoga

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has joined other African countries in high-level technical discussions on energy and transport under the auspices of the African Union. The meeting is taking place in Johannesburg.

The country is participating in the Fifth Ordinary Session of the Specialised Technical Committee on Transport and Energy.

The forum brings together experts to deliberate on strategic priorities shaping infrastructure development across the continent.

Tanzania’s delegation is led by Electricity and Renewable Energy Commissioner, Innocent Luoga.

He is heading a team of sector specialists engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening energy systems and transport networks.

Other members of the delegation include Stella Katondo, director of Transport Safety and Environment at the ministry of Transport, and Mohamed Salum, Director General of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation.

They are joined by additional experts from relevant institutions.

The technical meeting runs from April 27 to 29, 2026. It is focusing on key issues affecting the energy and transport sectors.

These include scaling up investment in renewable energy, expanding the use of natural gas, and strengthening cross-border electricity infrastructure.

Delegates are also examining ways to improve access to reliable and affordable energy.

Discussions further address the development of integrated transport systems.

These cover railways, roads, aviation, and maritime transport. The aim is to ease trade and movement of goods across Africa.

The technical session will be followed by a ministerial meeting scheduled for April 30, 2026. Tanzania is expected to participate at that level as well.

The outcomes of the meeting are anticipated to inform policy direction and regional cooperation. They are also expected to support Africa’s broader agenda of economic integration and sustainable development.
