Simba crush Prisons to revive title hopes

The emphatic win has revived hopes for the Msimbazi Reds in the championship race, as the team begins to show signs of returning to its feared and competitive best at a crucial stage of the season

Simba SC have sent a strong message to their title rivals after delivering a dominant 4-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons in a lively Mainland Premier League clash played at KMC Complex, Dar es Salaam on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

The emphatic win has revived hopes for the Msimbazi Reds in the championship race, as the team begins to show signs of returning to its feared and competitive best at a crucial stage of the season.

From the opening whistle, Simba played with intensity, confidence and attacking intent.

They broke the deadlock in the 28th minute through Morice Abraham, before Clatous Chama doubled the lead in the 42nd minute with a composed finish that reflected their growing attacking chemistry.

Just two minutes later, Seleman Mwalimu added the third goal in the 44th minute, sealing a devastating first-half performance that left Prisons completely overwhelmed and chasing shadows.

In the second half, Simba continued to dominate possession and dictate the rhythm of the game.

Their defensive line stayed compact, while also contributing to attacking phases.

The fourth goal arrived through defender Toure, who powered home to complete the rout and underline Simba’s all-round strength on the day.

The result marks Simba’s biggest and most convincing league victory of the season so far, and is being widely viewed as a turning point in their campaign.

The team’s improved cohesion, faster ball movement, and disciplined structure have given fans renewed belief that a serious title push is still alive.

With this victory, Simba move to 49 points, remaining behind league leaders Young Africans SC, who sit on 54 points.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Prisons remain rooted in danger, sitting 14th out of 15 teams with just 14 points.

Speaking after the match, Simba head coach Steve Barker praised his players for their response and overall performance:

“This is the kind of reaction we have been working towards. The intensity, the discipline and the hunger to score goals were all there today. We controlled the game from the first minute and played with real purpose.”

“I am especially happy with the balance between defence and attack. When you see defenders like Toure getting on the scoresheet, it shows the team is working as one unit. But we must stay grounded the season is not finished yet, and consistency will be key.”

Barker also emphasized that while the performance was encouraging, Simba must maintain this level in upcoming fixtures if they are to close the gap at the top and challenge seriously for the title.
