Chama inspires Simba’s title charge

In a tense encounter played at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, Simba showed resilience, character, and attacking quality to overturn an early setback and secure three crucial points in the title race

Simba SC are once again sitting at the summit of the Mainland Premier League table after a hard-fought 2–1 victory today, May 22, 2026 over Coastal Union, a match once again defined by the brilliance of their midfield maestro Clatous Chota Chama, famously known as “Triple C”.

In a tense encounter played at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, Simba showed resilience, character, and attacking quality to overturn an early setback and secure three crucial points in the title race.

Coastal Union stunned the visitors in the eighth minute when Maabad Maulid reacted quickest inside the box to a loose ball and fired a powerful strike beyond the goalkeeper, sending the home crowd into early celebration.

However, Simba gradually took control of possession and began dictating the tempo through their creative midfield.

Their persistence paid off in the 36th minute when Libasse Gueye finished off a well-worked move to level the score at 1–1.

Just before halftime, Simba completed the turnaround.

In the 44th minute, Alain Anicet Oura rose highest to meet a perfectly delivered corner from Chama, powering a header into the net to make it 2–1.

Once again, the fingerprints of Clatous Chama were all over the game.

His vision, calmness, and precision from set pieces proved decisive, as he continued his outstanding run of form since returning to Simba in January 2026 from Singida Black Stars.

Chama has now been directly involved in 12 league goals this season, a remarkable contribution that underlines his importance to the Msimbazi giants.

Overall, he has registered 14 goal contributions, scoring six times for Simba, adding two more during his spell at Singida Black Stars, and providing six assists.

Simba’s attacking unit continues to flourish, with Libasse Gueye showing consistency since his arrival from Teungueth FC.

The Senegalese forward has now netted six league goals, becoming a reliable attacking option in the squad.

Alain Anicet Oura, the Ivorian forward signed from IF Gnistan of Finland, is also growing in confidence, reaching four league goals and providing Simba with an additional attacking edge.

For Coastal Union, Maabad Maulid’s early strike took his league tally to six goals this season, making him their leading scorer and surpassing his previous season’s record.

Despite the defeat, his form remains one of the positives for the Tanga-based side.

The victory lifts Simba to the top of the table with 55 points from 24 matches.

Their record stands at 16 wins, seven draws, and just one defeat, with 44 goals scored and only 10 conceded—an impressive defensive and attacking balance.

Simba’s return to the summit marks their first spell at the top since October 1, 2025, when they defeated Namungo 3–0, briefly overtaking their traditional rivals Yanga.

Yanga SC, meanwhile, remain close behind in second place with 54 points from 23 matches.

They have recorded 16 wins, six draws, and one defeat, ensuring the title race remains extremely tight as the season approaches its climax.

Coastal Union sit 12th with 25 points, having struggled for consistency throughout the campaign.

Their record against Simba remains poor, with their last league victory over the Msimbazi giants dating back to March 23, 2014.

Historically, Simba have dominated this fixture, including a 2–0 win in their first meeting of the current cycle on April 2, 2026, when Seleman Mwalimu “Gomez” and Ismael Olivier Touré found the net.

In an earlier fixture at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Mbweni, JKT Tanzania were forced to settle for a 2–2 draw after a spirited contest against Fountain Gate.

The visitors made a dream start when Juma Issa Abushiri struck in the third minute, before Ismail Aziz Kader doubled their lead just before half-time in the 45th minute.

JKT Tanzania responded strongly in the second half, with Salehe Karabaka pulling one back in the 54th minute.

The comeback was completed in dramatic fashion when Paul Peter unleashed a stunning long-range effort in the 86th minute to level the match.

The result moves JKT Tanzania to sixth place with 37 points from 24 matches, reflecting a solid but inconsistent campaign so far.

They have recorded nine wins, ten draws, and five defeats.

Fountain Gate remain in 11th position with 26 points after 24 matches, having registered seven wins, five draws, and 12 losses.

As the league enters its decisive stage, both Simba and Yanga continue to set the pace, while the battle for top positions and mid-table security intensifies across the competition.
