Simba bid farewell to Seven players

Among the local players released are midfielders Edwin Balua, Aweso Aweso and Omar Omar

Tanzanian giants Simba SC have officially confirmed the departure of seven players as the club begins a major restructuring exercise ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Msimbazi-based outfit announced the exits through an official statement, signalling the first phase of its squad rebuilding process as the technical bench prepares for another push for domestic and continental success.

According to the club, the list of departing players consists of four foreign players and three Tanzanian footballers, with the changes expected to create room for new arrivals during the current transfer window.

Among the local players released are midfielders Edwin Balua, Aweso Aweso and Omar Omar.

The trio struggled for regular game time during the second half of last season’s Tanzanian Premier League campaign and were largely absent from the club’s matchday squads.

Balua, Aweso and Omar were all signed during the tenure of former head coach Fadlu Davids, but failed to establish themselves as key members of the team despite arriving with high expectations.

The foreign contingent leaving Simba includes goalkeeper Moussa Camara, who is understood to be on the verge of completing a move to France after ending his spell with the Tanzanian club.

Defender Chamou Karaboue has also departed after securing a transfer to Iraq, bringing an end to his relatively short stay at Simba.

The other foreign players released are Guinean midfielder Naby Camara, whose contract expired at the end of last season, and Zambian midfielder Joshua Mutale, who also leaves after failing to cement a regular place in the starting line-up.

With the departures confirmed, Simba’s foreign-player core has been significantly reduced, although the club still retains a strong group of overseas stars expected to form the backbone of the squad next season.

Those remaining include goalkeeper Mamadou Kassaly, defenders Rushine De Reuck and Ismael Toure, midfielders Allassane Kanté, Neo Maema, Lebase Gueye, Anicet Oura, Inno Loemba, Clatous Chama, and Ellie Mpanzu.

However, one notable omission from Simba’s statement has generated considerable speculation among supporters.

Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah, who has been involved in a prolonged contractual dispute with the club, was neither listed among the players who have been released nor included among those retained.

His absence from both categories has fuelled fresh uncertainty over his future, with reports suggesting he could make a return to Singida Black Stars, the club he left before joining Simba.

Sowah’s situation remains unresolved, and the coming weeks are expected to determine whether he will continue his career at Simba, secure a move elsewhere, or complete a reunion with Singida Black Stars.

The latest departures underline Simba’s determination to reshape the squad after falling short of some of their ambitions last season.

Club officials are expected to continue strengthening the team through new signings as preparations for the upcoming domestic league, cup competitions and CAF inter-club tournaments gather pace.

With several experienced names already shown the exit door and more transfer activity anticipated, Simba’s rebuilding project is now firmly underway as the club looks to assemble a squad capable of challenging for major honours in the new season.
