President Samia calls for peace to safeguard investment, jobs as Tanzania pursues vision 2050

The President urged the private sector to play a leading role in implementing Vision 2050 through increased investment, industrial production, service delivery, technology and innovation

Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on Tanzanians to safeguard peace and stability, describing them as the cornerstone of investment, employment creation and sustained economic growth as the country embarks on implementing the Tanzania Development Vision 2050.

The President made the remarks at State House in Dar es Salaam during a special meeting between the government and the private sector on the implementation of Vision 2050.

She said Tanzania’s abundant natural resources alone would not guarantee development unless they were supported by a peaceful environment that inspires investor confidence and enables businesses to operate without fear.

“As we pursue Vision 2050, it is our duty to protect our country’s peace and stability. By protecting peace and stability, we will also be protecting investment, jobs, businesses and the pace of economic growth,” President Samia said.

The President urged the private sector to play a leading role in implementing Vision 2050 through increased investment, industrial production, service delivery, technology and innovation.

She pledged that the government would continue improving the legal, policy and institutional environment to attract both domestic and foreign investment and accelerate the implementation of the long-term national development agenda.

She stressed that investment should strengthen both large and small industries and businesses while creating opportunities for young people, women and persons with disabilities to participate in production and value chains.

President Samia also encouraged Tanzanian entrepreneurs and investors to expand investment in agriculture and manufacturing, add value to the country’s natural resources, meet international quality standards and seize opportunities in the East African Community, the Southern African Development Community and wider African and global markets.

During the meeting, President Samia officially launched the implementation instruments for Vision 2050 and inaugurated the new Monitoring Framework, marking what she described as a new chapter in cooperation built on transparency and mutual trust between the Government and the private sector.

She directed the President’s Office for Planning and Investment to ensure that all key stakeholders receive adequate information on the new implementation tools so they clearly understand their responsibilities in delivering the Vision.

Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, pledged the full support of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in implementing Vision 2050.

He identified investment, science, technology, the digital economy, the blue economy and human capital development as priority areas requiring close collaboration between the Government and the private sector.

Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Planning and Investment, Prof Kitila Mkumbo, said reforms to Tanzania’s business environment had strengthened investor confidence and enhanced the country’s attractiveness as an investment destination.

He pointed to increased investment in financial technology, agriculture and clean energy as evidence that the reforms were already delivering positive results.

The Chairperson of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), Angelina Ngalula, welcomed improvements in policies, legislation, tax administration and investment incentives, saying they had expanded opportunities for private sector participation in the economy.

Speaking on behalf of business associations, private sector representatives pledged to continue investing, adopting new technologies and creating jobs.

They also called on the Government to maintain predictable policies and sustain regular dialogue with businesses on investment and the operating environment.

President Samia also witnessed the signing of a public-private partnership charter on the implementation of Vision 2050 and urged participating institutions and associations to educate their members and ensure the commitments made under the agreement are translated into action.

In recognition of its contribution to improving Tanzania’s business and investment climate and promoting inclusive economic growth, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation received a national award of appreciation during the event.

Concluding the meeting, President Samia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the private sector, saying closer collaboration would accelerate implementation of Vision 2050 and deliver tangible benefits to Tanzanians.
