Dar es Salaam. Tanzania is set to showcase its infrastructure achievements and attract new private sector investment as it hosts the Africa50 General Shareholders’ Meeting (GSM) and the Infra for Africa Forum on August 5–6, 2026 with more than 1,200 delegates expected to attend the high-level gathering in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting will bring together government leaders, international investors, financial institutions and Africa50 shareholders to discuss financing strategic infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating industrialisation across the continent.
Speaking during a preparatory meeting with the minister for Finance Amb Khamis Mussa Omar in Dar es Salaam, Africa50 Chief Executive Officer Alain Ebobissé said the event would provide Tanzania with an opportunity to demonstrate the progress it has made in infrastructure development while promoting investment opportunities to a global audience.
He said the forum would also serve as evidence that investment in African infrastructure is commercially viable, profitable and capable of attracting sustainable financing.
Ebobissé said the central theme of the meeting would focus on building Africa’s industrial economy through value addition to locally available resources, an objective that depends heavily on reliable energy infrastructure.
He commended Tanzania’s efforts to attract private sector capital into infrastructure development, describing the country’s investment agenda as an important example for the rest of the continent.
“Africa50 is one of the vehicles supporting that vision by partnering in the implementation of strategic projects. Infrastructure, particularly energy, is essential for industrial development and sends a clear message that Africa is ready for investment,” he said.
Ebobissé added that Africa50 had prioritised investment in natural gas infrastructure, including pipelines and processing facilities, to expand gas supplies to industrial zones in Tanzania and across Africa, thereby supporting value addition and economic transformation.
He noted that although many investors had already expressed interest in participating, the forum presented an ideal opportunity to reinforce the message that Africa is a safe, strategic and attractive destination for long-term infrastructure investment.
Amb Mussa Omar said the government had completed preparations for the two-day meeting, which is intended to mobilise private sector investment in strategic infrastructure projects, including natural gas, electricity generation and industrial development across Africa.
He confirmed that President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to officially open the conference at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.
The minister said Tanzania expected the forum to deliver tangible outcomes, including the signing of three cooperation agreements in the health sector, particularly in dialysis services.
“We have also reviewed progress on strategic projects, including natural gas development, energy transmission infrastructure and other energy initiatives aimed at accelerating industrial economic growth,” Ambassador Omar said.
He added that the government was satisfied that all logistical and organisational arrangements had been completed to ensure the success of the meeting, which will bring together national leaders, presidents of development finance institutions and major international investors.
The conference is expected to strengthen collaboration between governments, development finance institutions and private investors while advancing innovative financing models for infrastructure projects that support Africa’s long-term economic growth.
Ahead of the opening of the summit, Amb Omar, accompanied by Deputy minister for Finance Laurent Luswetula, welcomed the President of the African Development Bank, Sidi Ould Tah, upon his arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport to participate in the Africa50 General Shareholders’ Meeting and the Infra for Africa Forum.
The high-level gathering is expected to reinforce Tanzania’s position as a regional investment destination while highlighting the country’s expanding role in promoting infrastructure-led industrialisation and private sector participation across Africa.
