Kilwa Salt Refinery Plant set to be completed by August 2025

Dar es Salaam. The Salt Refinery Plant in Lingaula, Kilwa District, Lindi Region, is set to be completed by August 2025, as announced in Parliament on Monday, February 10, 2025.

The Deputy Minister for Minerals, Dr Steven Kiruswa, stated in Dodoma that the government is making good progress with the construction of the plant, which aims to address challenges faced by salt producers, particularly in the southern regions of Tanzania.

Dr Steven Kiruswa made this statement while responding to a question from Kilwa South MP Ally Kassinge regarding the status of the salt factory construction in Nangurukuru

Detailing the project’s progress, Dr Kiruswa explained that the site has been surveyed, ownership documentation secured, and it has been handed over to the National Mining Corporation (STAMICO).

“Honorable Speaker, STAMICO has acquired a salt refining machine for this project,” he emphasized.

He added: “The first phase of the equipment has already arrived in the country, and the procedures for clearing it from the port and transporting it to the project site are underway.”

Additionally, construction of the building to house this equipment is progressing.

These developments reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing the mining sector, increasing the value of national resources, and boosting salt production in the country.
