Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan on March 24, 2025 participated in a joint virtual summit of Heads of State and Government from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
She joined the summit from the Mkanyageni State Lodge in Chake Chake, South Pemba.
The summit was the second of its kind, following an initial meeting convened on February 8, 2025 at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
The virtual summit connected leaders from both regional blocs in a continued effort to enhance collaboration on security, economic integration, infrastructure, and climate change mitigation.
Among the leaders who participated included Presidents William Ruto (Kenya), Emmerson Mnangagwa (Zimbabwe), Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa), Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Lazarus Chakwera (Malawi), Andry Rajoelina (Madagascar), and Hakainde Hichilema (Zambia).
Prime Minister of Somalia and ministers from South Sudan and Angola also participated in the meeting.
Discussions centred on regional security, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as leaders explored ways to promote stability.
Economic cooperation was also a key focus, with emphasis on enhancing trade and investment among member states.
The summit further reviewed progress on cross-border infrastructure projects, including transport and energy networks, while addressing the impact of climate change on the region.
These high-level engagements are expected to play a crucial role in fostering African-led solutions to the continent’s challenges while reinforcing unity between the two blocs.
