Yanga secure Moussa Bala Conte from CS Sfaxien

Conte’s arrival at Yanga comes at a critical time where there is growing uncertainty over the future of key midfielder Khalid Aucho, who is reportedly preparing for a move to an Israeli club

Dar es Salaam. It’s all but official Young Africans SC (Yanga) have wrapped up the signing of highly-rated defensive midfielder Moussa Bala Conte from Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien.

Interestingly, Simba SC were the first to express strong interest in the Guinean midfielder, initiating talks with CS Sfaxien in hopes of luring him to Msimbazi.

However, Yanga swiftly hijacked the deal and moved in with purpose culminating in a quiet but effective takeover of negotiations.

Today (Friday July 18), Yanga’s president Hersi Said posted a photo alongside Conte on the club’s official Instagram page, a clear signal that the deal is done and dusted.

Two-Year Deal Completed

Although the club has not yet disclosed the details of the contract publicly, The Bizlens understands that Conte has signed a two-year deal with the Jangwani-based side.

Yanga were able to successfully negotiate with CS Sfaxien, who held Conte under a contract set to expire in 2026.

Despite having one year left on his deal, the Tunisian side agreed to a transfer fee, paving the way for Yanga to negotiate personal terms directly with the player.

Conte’s Rising Star

Aged just 21, Moussa Bala Conte is one of the most promising defensive midfielders in North African football.

Last season, he was a key player for CS Sfaxien, starting regularly in both domestic and continental competitions.

Despite CS Sfaxien’s early exit at the group stage of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup, Conte’s performances stood out, making him a target for several African clubs.

Yanga’s Midfield Reshuffle Underway

Conte’s arrival at Yanga comes at a critical time. There is growing uncertainty over the future of key midfielder Khalid Aucho, who is reportedly preparing for a move to an Israeli club.

Additionally, long-serving midfielders Mudathir Yahya and Duke Abuya are currently free agents after their contracts expired at the end of last season.

With Conte’s signing, Yanga have made a strategic move to reduce pressure in the defensive midfield area as they begin building a new core for the 2025/26 campaign.

What’s Next?

Conte’s physicality, tactical awareness, and continental experience make him an ideal fit for Yanga’s ambitions not just in domestic competitions, but in CAF tournaments where midfield dominance is essential.

As the club prepares to unveil him officially, fans can expect a powerful addition to the squad—one who may become a cornerstone of Yanga’s midfield for years to come.
