Former Simba defender joins Yanga on six-month loan

Dar es Salaam. Former Simba SC defender Israel Mwenda has completed a six-month loan move to Young Africans (Yanga) from Singida Big Stars.

The versatile defender, who can play both as a right-back and a left-back, joins the 30-time Tanzanian Premier League champions as part of their plans to strengthen their squad for both domestic and international competitions.

Mwenda, who had a brief spell with Singida Big Stars this season, will now look to contribute to Yanga’s defensive setup as the club prepares for a busy period ahead.

His arrival is expected to increase competition for spots in the team’s defense, particularly in the right-back position, where Ivory Coast international Kouassi Attohoula Yao has been a first-choice option.

Additionally, Kibwana Shomari, who has often been utilized as a backup, will also face greater competition following Mwenda’s arrival.

The move marks the first signing for Yanga in the upcoming transfer window, which is set to officially open on December 15.

The club, which is one of the most successful in Tanzanian football history, continues to make strides in enhancing their squad depth, as they aim to defend their league title and perform well in continental competitions.

Mwenda’s experience and defensive qualities are expected to be valuable assets as the team eyes further success this season.

For Mwenda, this loan move represents an opportunity to play at a higher level and potentially cement his place in one of Tanzania’s top clubs.

Having previously played for Simba SC, his switch to Yanga, one of their biggest rivals, adds an interesting chapter to his career in Tanzanian football.

Fans will be eager to see how the defender adapts to his new environment and contributes to Yanga’s ongoing quest for glory.
