Tanzanian govt secures 1,400 overseas jobs for youth, women

Between November 2025 and January 2026, a total of 1,432 Tanzanians had been placed in jobs overseas

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzanian government has successfully facilitated more than 1,400 overseas employment opportunities for young people and women since November 2025, in a move aimed at easing unemployment through strengthened diplomatic relations with foreign countries.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, January 8, 2026, during a farewell ceremony for 109 youths who have secured jobs abroad, the minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Employment and Relations), Mr Deus Clement Sangu, said the achievement reflects the Government’s deliberate efforts to expand employment opportunities beyond national borders.

Mr Sangu said that between November 2025 and January 2026, a total of 1,432 Tanzanians had been placed in jobs overseas, attributing the milestone to the diplomatic initiatives spearheaded by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in fostering strong bilateral relations with other nations.

He added that the government is working towards securing up to 8,000 additional overseas jobs by the end of this year.

As part of this drive, 500 vacancies for motorcycle drivers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have already been announced, with the recruitment and interview process expected to be completed by February 2026.

The Minister further disclosed that discussions are ongoing to secure up to 50,000 skills-development employment opportunities in Japan for young Tanzanians in the construction sector.

He said once the negotiations are finalised, eligible youths across the country will be invited to apply.

Mr Sangu assured the 109 departing youths that the government, through Tanzanian embassies abroad, has ensured their employment contracts, safety arrangements and working conditions are properly coordinated.

He urged them to work with professionalism and discipline while upholding Tanzanian values and culture.

Earlier, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Employment and Relations), Ms Zuhura Yunus, said overseas employment presents valuable opportunities, noting that the farewell event was tangible evidence of the government’s commitment to job creation, particularly for youths and women.

On his part, the chairperson of the Tanzania Mainland Recruitment Agencies Association (TRAA), Mr Abdallah Khalid Mohamed, said close cooperation between the association and the government has been instrumental in securing employment opportunities both abroad and domestically for many Tanzanians.

Mr Mohamed said TRAA, established in 2000, has remained a key stakeholder in supporting the Prime Minister’s Office in sourcing jobs and contributing to the implementation of the National Development Vision centred on people.

The beneficiaries of the overseas employment programme have been placed in countries including Germany, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman.

They are engaged in various sectors such as electrical and construction trades, nursing, automotive mechanics, vehicle and motorcycle driving, and domestic services.
