Dube, Okello shine as Yanga thrash Singida BS

The win reinforces Yanga’s position at the top of the table and highlights their dominance in Tanzanian football

Singida. Defending Mainland Premier League champions Young Africans Sports Club continued their impressive unbeaten streak after recording a convincing 3–0 victory over Singida Black Stars in a league match played today, Thursday, March 5, 2026 at the Airtel Stadium, Singida.

The win reinforces Yanga’s position at the top of the table and highlights their dominance in Tanzanian football.

From the first whistle, Yanga asserted their authority on the pitch.

The team maintained possession, probed Singida’s defensive lines, and created multiple chances through their wide players and midfield link-ups.

Singida, determined to impress at home, defended resolutely but struggled to contain the pace and movement of Yanga’s attackers.

The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when striker Prince Dube opened the scoring.

Dube received a perfectly timed pass from winger Maxi Nzengeli, bypassing Singida’s defensive pressure, and finished calmly to give the visitors the lead.

The goal was a testament to Yanga’s fluid attacking play and effective teamwork.

Just before half-time, Yanga doubled their advantage from the penalty spot. Ugandan attacking midfielder Allan Okello who joined the club in the January 2026 transfer window from Vipers Sports Club in Uganda, calmly converted after Dube was fouled inside the area by Nigerian defender Morice Chukwu.

The timing of the goal gave Yanga a commanding 2–0 lead heading into the break.

Okello’s arrival in the squad has already made a significant impact.

His vision, ball control, and composure in front of goal have added another dimension to Yanga’s attacking options, complementing the prowess of Prince Dube and Maxi Nzengeli.

Fans have quickly taken to the new signing, seeing him as a key figure in the team’s title defence.

Singida Black Stars attempted to respond after the interval.

The home side created several promising attacking movements and tried to stretch Yanga’s defence.

However, they were repeatedly thwarted by the visitors’ disciplined backline and the alertness of goalkeeper Abdalla Ndemla, who pulled off a number of key saves.

Yanga made the game safe in the 54th minute when midfielder Mudathir Yahya scored the third goal.

Yahya reacted swiftly to a loose ball that spilled from Singida goalkeeper Metacha Mnata.

With composure, he tapped the ball into the net, effectively ending any hopes Singida had of mounting a comeback.

The victory extends Yanga’s unbeaten streak in the Mainland Premier League to 32 matches.

Their last defeat came on November 7, 2024, when they lost 3–1 to Tabora United at the Azam Complex Stadium in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.

Since then, Yanga have dominated the league, winning 29 matches and drawing three.

Over the course of these 32 matches, Yanga’s attacking line has been particularly impressive, scoring 99 goals.

At the same time, their defence has remained remarkably strong, conceding just eight goals, reflecting a well-balanced and disciplined approach to both attack and defence.

The club has also maintained a strong record against Singida Black Stars.

Prior to this encounter, the teams met during the official opening of the Airtel Stadium on March 24,  2025 in a friendly that ended 1–1.

Heavy rainfall forced the match to stop after 57 minutes, preventing either side from claiming full bragging rights.

In the Mainland Premier League, Yanga last faced Singida on February 17, 2025, winning 2–1 thanks to goals from Clement Mzize and Prince Dube.

That match saw former Singida striker Jonathan Sowah, now with Simba Sports Club, score the last goal Singida have managed against Yanga in league competition, highlighting Yanga’s consistency in overcoming their rivals.

The latest win consolidates Yanga’s lead at the top of the table, giving them 32 points from 12 matches this season.

Their combination of attacking flair and defensive discipline has made them formidable opponents and strong contenders to defend their title.

Elsewhere, Azam FC were held to a 0–0 draw by Tanzania Prisons at the Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.

The result prevented the Dar es Salaam-based side from climbing further up the table and marked their second consecutive draw in the league.

For Tanzania Prisons, the match was significant as it was the first under new head coach Shadrack Nsajigwa, who took over on February 27, 2026, replacing Kenyan tactician Zedekiah Otieno.

Nsajigwa, a former Yanga player and national team captain, brought experience and tactical awareness to the team, guiding them in this challenging fixture.

Prior to his departure, Otieno led Prisons in 14 league matches, winning three, drawing three, and losing eight.

His tenure saw the team score eight goals while conceding 16, highlighting the defensive challenges the side faced before the new coach’s appointment.

Nsajigwa previously managed Transit Camp FC, leaving the club in fourth place with 37 points from 19 matches.

During his tenure there, his team won 11 matches, drew four, and lost four, scoring 26 goals while conceding 17.

His experience is expected to help Prisons stabilise and climb away from the relegation zone.

Following today’s results, Azam FC remain fourth in the league standings with 24 points from 12 matches, while Tanzania Prisons sit 15th with 13 points from 15 matches.

Meanwhile, Yanga continue their dominant march at the summit, showing that they remain the team to beat in the 2025–2026 Mainland Premier League season.
