Dar es Salaam. A total of 521 young Tanzanians have departed for overseas employment, with 45 heading to Europe, as the government expands structured labour migration pathways.

The group was seen off on March 27, 2026 in Dar es Salaam during an official ceremony led by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Deus Sangu.

He said the programme forms part of ongoing government efforts to open safe and regulated migration routes through cooperation with partner countries and international institutions.

The initiative aims to secure decent employment, protect workers’ rights and enable Tanzanians to participate in the global labour market.

Mr Sangu stated that the move reflects the employment vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which places youth employment at the centre of national development priorities.

He assured the departing workers that the government would continue to safeguard their welfare while abroad.

“The government has put in place mechanisms to ensure your safety and dignity while working overseas,” he said, urging the workers to remain confident and disciplined as they begin their assignments.

According to the Director of Employment Services, Jane Sologo, private recruitment agencies played a critical role in linking Tanzanian workers with employers abroad.

She expressed appreciation for their continued cooperation in facilitating lawful labour mobility.

She said the 521 workers will take up employment opportunities in Denmark, Poland, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Of the total, 45 workers are bound for European destinations.

The Chairman of the Tanzania Association of Recruitment Agencies, Abdallah Khaled Mohamed, commended the government for strengthening collaboration with licensed agents.

He said the partnership has improved transparency and efficiency in managing overseas employment programmes.

Among the departing workers is Raila Shabani, a graduate of Sokoine University of Agriculture, who is travelling to Denmark.

She described the opportunity as a chance to gain new skills and knowledge.

She encouraged other young people to take advantage of official employment opportunities offered through government channels.

In a related development, Mr Sangu announced additional overseas employment prospects expected in the coming weeks.

He said the ministry has secured new opportunities for Tanzanian professionals, including 300 nursing positions scheduled to be advertised in early April 2026 for deployment to Saudi Arabia.

He said these initiatives form part of broader labour market reforms under the Sixth Phase Government led by President Samia.

The strategy seeks to widen employment opportunities for Tanzanians and support household incomes through remittances and skills transfer.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening enabling systems that support safe, legal and dignified labour migration, with the goal of allowing more Tanzanians to benefit from overseas employment opportunities in the years ahead.
