Simba SC have kept their Premier League title hopes alive after securing a narrow but important 1–0 victory over JKT Tanzania on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Meja Jenerali Isamuhyo Stadium.
From the opening whistle, Simba started on the front foot, applying early pressure through Clatous Chama, Ellie Mpanzu and Libasse Guaye.
However, JKT Tanzania stood firm defensively, well organised and disciplined at the back under Karim Mfaume and Laurian Makame before his injury, closing down key spaces particularly on the flanks where Simba repeatedly looked to break through.
Despite Simba’s fluid attacking play and constant movement in the final third, JKT remained compact and resilient, managing to neutralise much of the danger around their penalty area.
By half-time, neither side had managed to break the deadlock.
Simba registered five shots, with two on target and four corners, while JKT failed to register a single shot on target.
In the 45+2 minute, JKT were forced into a change after Makame picked up an injury, with Edson Katanga coming on as his replacement.
The second half saw Simba raise the tempo, increasing their attacking intensity and pushing JKT deeper into their own half.
Their pressure eventually paid off in the 52nd minute when Ellie Mpanzu produced a perfectly weighted pass to Clatous Chama, who showed great composure to slot home the only goal of the match.
That goal further highlighted the strong understanding between Mpanzu and Chama, who were also instrumental in Simba’s goal during the 2–2 draw against Yanga in the Kariakoo derby last weekend.
For Chama, it was his fifth goal of the season. After taking the lead, Simba made tactical adjustments, introducing Seleman Mwalimu for Libasse Guaye to add more attacking presence.
Later, Alassane Kante came on for Loemba to strengthen the midfield and help control possession.
JKT Tanzania pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Simba’s defensive organisation and discipline stood firm, dealing with every threat effectively.
The 1–0 victory takes Simba to 45 points, maintaining second place in the NBC Premier League standings, behind leaders Yanga SC who sit on 51 points.
