Dar es Salaam. The Bank of Tanzania has officially expanded the nation’s specialized financial sector by issuing a formal banking license to a new institution, LOLC Tanzania Microfinance Bank Limited.
According to an official public notice released by the central bank, the newly approved institution has been cleared to conduct and carry on full banking business across the United Republic of Tanzania.

The regulatory approval took effect from 11th June 2026.
LOLC Tanzania Microfinance Bank Limited becomes the fifth microfinance bank to operate within the country’s formal financial framework alongside dozens of commercial banks, community banks, and over a thousand tier-two microfinance institutions.
This regulatory milestone underscores the continuous growth of the microfinance sector in Tanzania, which remains crucial for driving financial inclusion, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and improving access to credit for underserved communities across the country.
The entry of international expertise through the LOLC network is anticipated to bring increased competitiveness and digitized financial services to the local marketplace.
