Hersi pledges to deliver Yanga stadium project

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) President, Engineer Hersi Said, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering the club’s long-awaited stadium project, saying it remains the biggest promise he is yet to fulfil during his tenure.

Hersi made the remarks on Saturday, July 4, 2026, during Yanga’s Tanzanian Mainland Premier League title parade after the club secured its fifth consecutive league championship.

Speaking at the club’s headquarters in Jangwani, Hersi admitted that supporters and members continue to remind him about his pledge to build the club’s own stadium.

“The title parade we hold next season will not take place here at Jangwani because, by then, construction of our stadium will already be underway,” Hersi said.

He explained that preparations for the project are progressing, with one of the remaining requirements being the transfer of the government-allocated land into the ownership of the company that will oversee the stadium’s construction.

According to Hersi, the government has directed that the project should be undertaken through a corporate structure rather than under the club’s current membership-based system.

“The government wants the stadium project to be managed by a company instead of the members’ structure under which the club currently operates. I believe our members will support this important investment model,” he said.

Hersi noted that the proposed structural changes would require approval from the club’s members before they can be implemented.

The Yanga president, who is seeking another term in office, said members are expected to endorse the proposal during the club’s General Election scheduled for August 2, 2026.

He expressed confidence that the approval process would be completed smoothly, allowing the stadium project to move into the construction phase without unnecessary delays.

Apart from the stadium development, Hersi assured supporters that the club would continue strengthening the squad as it aims to challenge for more domestic and continental honours during the 2026/27 season.

Yanga’s latest league triumph extended the club’s dominance in Tanzanian football, with the record champions lifting a fifth successive Mainland Premier League title as they now look to combine sustained success on the pitch with major infrastructure development off it.
