Dar es Salaam. NMB Foundation and Mercy Corps Tanzania have signed a Sh2.6 billion implementation agreement to support the growth of Tanzania’s emerging electric mobility (E-Mobility) sector through financing, business development and entrepreneurship support targeting women, youth and small enterprises operating across the value chain.
The two-year partnership, signed in Dar es Salaam on July 31, 2026 will be implemented under the Evolve Project, supported by the European Union through the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel).
The agreement was signed by Nelson Karumuna, general manager of NMB Foundation, and Anthony Salota, Mercy Corps Tanzania Coordinator, in the presence of Virginie Hallet, Country Director of Enabel Tanzania, and Marc Stalmans, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Tanzania.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Karumuna said the initiative will strengthen businesses operating in the E-Mobility ecosystem through entrepreneurship training, business advisory services and access to finance.
He said the first phase will support more than 25 businesses in Dar es Salaam while laying the foundation for future expansion to other parts of the country.
Salota said Mercy Corps will lead project implementation by identifying innovative entrepreneurs and existing businesses requiring financial and technical support to scale their operations.
He noted that the initiative is expected to create opportunities for innovation, employment and wider adoption of clean transport solutions.
Enabel E-Mobility engineer Pascal Giki said the project will also support charging infrastructure, business model development and improved access to grants and financing.
The first phase targets about 15 entrepreneurs with new business ideas and around eight existing businesses operating within the E-Mobility sector.
Partners said the initiative is expected to accelerate Tanzania’s transition towards cleaner transport solutions while contributing to inclusive economic growth and the country’s long-term Development Vision 2050.
