Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian motorists will pay less for petrol, diesel and kerosene in August after the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) announced a reduction in fuel price caps, citing lower international oil prices.
According to EWURA, the new maximum retail prices took effect from 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, following continued monitoring of developments in the global petroleum market.
The regulator said pump prices declined by Sh92 per litre for petrol, Sh204 per litre for diesel and Sh440 per litre for kerosene compared with the previous month.
Under the new price caps, motorists in Dar es Salaam will pay a maximum of Sh3,898 per litre for petrol, Sh3,978 for diesel and Sh4,003 for kerosene.
In Tanga, the respective prices are Sh3,959, Sh4,039 and Sh4,065, while in Mtwara they are Sh3,990, Sh4,070 and Sh4,096.
EWURA attributed the price reductions to fluctuations in the international oil market and changes affecting petroleum imports into East Africa.
The authority said it would continue monitoring global market developments in line with its statutory mandate.
The regulator reminded petroleum retailers that they must not sell fuel above the published price caps.
Wholesale traders are also required to comply with the approved wholesale prices, warning that legal action will be taken against any operator found violating the regulations.
EWURA further urged consumers to purchase fuel only from licensed filling stations displaying official price boards.
It advised motorists to request Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) receipts for every purchase, saying the receipts provide proof of payment and can help customers report overcharging or fuel quality complaints while also supporting government tax collection.
The authority noted that fuel companies remain free to sell petroleum products below the published price caps, provided prices do not fall below the minimum level permitted under EWURA’s petroleum pricing regulations.
