Dar es Salaam. The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, has instructed Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa to lead a team to inspect the buildings in Kariakoo to assess the situation following the building collapse that occurred on Saturday, November 16.
The order, issued on Sunday (November 17), came after a tragic incident in Kariakoo, a busy commercial area in Dar es Salaam.
Dr Samia stressed: “Once the rescue operation is complete, Prime Minister, lead a team to inspect all the buildings in Kariakoo so we can get a real picture of the condition of the area.”
Additionally, Dr Samia directed the Police Force to gather complete information from the owner of the collapsed building regarding the construction process.
“When the investigation findings are ready, they will be made public, and the steps the government will take will be communicated,” Dr Samia said in a televised address to the people of Tanzania.
By Sunday morning at 4 a.m., 84 people had been rescued from the collapsed building, according to President Dr Samia.
Among the survivors, she explained, 26 remain hospitalized with injuries.
In a somber message, Dr Samia expressed her condolences, noting that 13 people lost their lives in the incident.
“I extend my condolences to the families, relatives, and friends affected by this tragedy,” she said sadly.
She added: “The government will cover the medical expenses for the injured and ensure proper funeral arrangements for the deceased.”
