Dar es Salaam. Colleges and mid-level educational institutions, including the College of Business Education (CBE), have been urged to revise their curricula to meet the current demands of the global job market as well as socio-economic requirements.
This call was made on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, during celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of CBE.
The pre-eminent college of business education was established on January 21, 1965.
“The government emphasises the use of modern technologies and learning methods that address global challenges,” said Dr Biteko.
He stressed that the government expects mid-level educational institutions, including CBE, to prioritise entrepreneurial training to equip graduates with skills that contribute to national economic growth through innovative businesses and self-employment.
Additionally, Dr Biteko called on educational institutions, such as CBE, to strengthen partnerships with the private sector to ensure that the training provided aligns with labour market needs.
He further urged these institutions to support the private sector’s growth through research and capacity-building initiatives.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of in-depth research by business education institutions to address economic challenges, enhance trade policies, and devise sustainable solutions.
“The government has directed institutions like CBE to ensure that educational opportunities are accessible to all societal groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities, to enhance inclusive participation in the national economy,” added Dr Biteko.
On his part, the minister for Industry and Trade, Mr Selemani Jafo, described CBE as a hub of commerce in the country.
He noted the institution’s successful establishment of international partnerships with countries such as China and Germany, underscoring its critical role in facilitating business activities across all its campuses nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Finance, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba, commended CBE for its significant contribution to the growth of the financial sector in Tanzania.
“Finance, trade, and investment are interconnected. However, all the achievements we have witnessed must be attributed to the visionary leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan,” said Dr Nchemba.
CBE Principal, Prof Edda Lwoga, reflected on the institution’s achievements over the past six decades.
She noted that CBE has consistently delivered business education to various societal groups and provided short-term training programmes to numerous business stakeholders as part of its 60th-anniversary celebrations.
