Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania is set to officiate the 11th East African Oil and Gas Conference, scheduled for March 5–7 here in the city, it was revealed on Friday, February 7, 2025.
This significant event will gather over 1,000 participants, including industry experts, policymakers, and investors from East Africa and beyond, to explore opportunities and challenges in the region’s oil and gas sector.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Mr Felchesmi Mramba, announced at a press conference in Dar es Salaam that the conference will concentrate on key issues, including oil and gas exploration, investment opportunities, infrastructure development, value chain enhancement, and strategies for transitioning to clean energy sources.
Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr James Mataragio noted that Tanzania, as the host country, will have three representatives—two from the mainland and one from Zanzibar—while other participating nations will each send two delegates.
Jean Baptiste Havugimana, Director of Productive Sectors at the East African Community (EAC), emphasized the importance of the conference in fostering regional cooperation and addressing industry challenges.
He highlighted that discussions will also cover regulatory frameworks, technological advancements, and financing mechanisms for oil and gas projects.
Since its inception in 2003, the East African Oil and Gas Conference has been held biennially, rotating among member states.
After previously hosting the event, Tanzania is once again taking the lead as the regional energy sector continues to evolve.
This year’s conference promises to be a vital platform for collaboration and innovation in the oil and gas industry.
