Dr Mpango urges peaceful participation in polls

Dodoma. Vice President Dr Philip Mpango on Easter Sunday service, April 20 called on Tanzanians to maintain peace and shun violence during this year’s General Election, as he joined Christians in celebrating Easter in the capital.

Speaking shortly after attending the Easter Mass at the Catholic Church of Blessed Maria Theresa Ledochowska Parish at Kiwanja cha Ndege in Dodoma, Dr Mpango also urged parents—especially mothers—to play a greater role in guiding their children, particularly the youth, against engaging in or cheering on violent acts during the election period.

He reminded worshippers and the wider public that violence has never been part of Tanzania’s national fabric, and stressed the importance of safeguarding peace as the country heads towards the polls.

“As we approach the General Election, let us uphold peace and harmony. Violence is not part of who we are as Tanzanians,” he said.

Dr Mpango also called on election officials and all those who will be entrusted with managing the electoral process to act with integrity, adhere to the law and follow official guidelines.

He said fairness must be guaranteed for all candidates, regardless of their political affiliation.

On a separate note, the Vice President reminded road users to be vigilant and responsible, warning against reckless use of vehicles, which continues to cause unnecessary loss of life.

He extended Easter greetings to all Tanzanians and urged them to celebrate the holiday with joy, unity and peace.

The Mass was presided over by Father Dionis Paskal Safari and was also attended by the Vice President’s spouse, Mama Mbonimpaye Mpango.
