Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has departed the country for her first official foreign visit since her election, marking a key diplomatic engagement at the start of her new term.
According to a statement issued by the State House, President Samia left Dar es Salaam on February 2, 2026, en route to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where she will participate in the launch of the Global Africa Investment Summit (GAIS) on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2026.
The World Governments Summit, scheduled to take place from February 3 to 5, 2026, is being held under the theme Shaping Future Governments.
It brings together Heads of State and Government, ministers, global institutions, and private-sector leaders to deliberate on future-ready governance, economic resilience, and innovative policy solutions.
Convened alongside the Summit, GAIS is a high-level, deal-oriented initiative designed to translate political dialogue into tangible investment outcomes for Africa.
The visit marks President Samia’s first international engagement following the 2025 General Election and is intended to send a clear signal of policy continuity, political stability, and renewed momentum in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
It also reflects the strategic direction articulated in Tanzania Development Vision (DIRA) 2050 and the new Foreign Policy, both of which place economic diplomacy at the centre of Tanzania’s international relations.
While in Dubai, President Samia is expected to hold bilateral engagements with the host country, the United Arab Emirates, as well as meetings with leaders of international financial institutions and global investors.
These engagements are aimed at reinforcing Tanzania’s long-standing partnership with the UAE and expanding avenues for investment cooperation.
At the World Governments Summit, President Samia is also scheduled to participate in a high-level panel discussion alongside the Presidents of Angola, Ghana, and Mozambique.
Titled Government and the Future of Investment: An African Perspective, the discussion will focus on Africa’s next phase of economic transformation and the mobilisation of global capital to accelerate growth in strategic sectors.
The Summit provides Tanzania with an opportunity to present priority, investment-ready projects in infrastructure, energy, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, and technology, aligning national development priorities with global investment decisions and reinforcing the country’s post-election economic agenda.
