Dar es Salaam. Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over KMC in a Mainland Tanzania Premier League fixture played at the KMC Complex on May 6, 2026.
The match, which was closely contested throughout, was ultimately decided by a second-half strike from Ugandan midfielder Allan Okello, whose moment of brilliance proved enough to separate the two sides.
From the opening whistle, Yanga demonstrated their intent to dominate proceedings, controlling possession with composed passing and well-structured attacking movements.
Their midfield, led by creative influences, worked tirelessly to dictate the tempo of the game.
However, KMC showed great discipline defensively, maintaining a compact shape and frustrating Yanga’s efforts to break them down.
During the first half, Yanga created several promising opportunities, but lacked the clinical edge required to convert their chances into goals.
Their forwards found themselves repeatedly denied by a resilient KMC defence and an alert goalkeeper.
On the other hand, KMC relied largely on counter-attacks, attempting to exploit spaces left behind by Yanga’s advancing players.
Despite a few encouraging moments, they were unable to seriously trouble Yanga’s back line.
As a result, both sides went into the interval goalless.
The second half saw Yanga increase their intensity, pushing higher up the pitch and applying sustained pressure in search of a breakthrough.
Their persistence eventually paid off in the 65th minute when Shekhan Ibrahim produced a clever and incisive pass that split the KMC defence.
The ball found Allan Okello just outside the penalty area. Without hesitation, Okello unleashed a powerful and precise strike that beat the KMC goalkeeper, sending the ball into the back of the net.
The goal sparked celebrations among Yanga supporters and injected renewed confidence into the team as they took a crucial lead.
Following the goal, KMC attempted to respond by committing more players forward in search of an equaliser.
They showed determination and urgency, but were met by a well-organised and disciplined Yanga defence, which remained composed under pressure.
Yanga, meanwhile, managed the game intelligently, balancing defensive solidity with occasional attacking threats to keep their opponents cautious.
As the match progressed towards its conclusion, Yanga maintained control and prevented KMC from creating clear-cut scoring opportunities.
Their experience and tactical awareness were evident as they successfully protected their narrow lead until the final whistle.
The victory ensures that Yanga remain at the top of the league standings, now with 51 points from 21 matches.
It also extends their impressive run of form and strengthens their position as strong contenders to retain the league title this season.
Overall, the match was a testament to Yanga’s quality, resilience, and ability to perform under pressure, while KMC can take encouragement from their disciplined display despite the narrow defeat.
