Simba turn up heat in title race after win over Mashujaa

Clatous Chama was once again the decisive figure, continuing his fine form by scoring and orchestrating Simba’s attack, while Seleman Mwalimu added the second goal late in stoppage time to seal all three points

The Tanzanian Premier League title race has been thrown wide open after Simba SC reduced today, May 14, 2026 the gap to leaders Yanga SC to just two points following a 3-0 victory over Mashujaa FC at Lake Tanganyika Stadium.

The result has sparked excitement among Simba supporters, who are now confidently chanting “just two points” as the season reaches a tense final stretch.

Clatous Chama was once again the decisive figure, continuing his fine form by scoring and orchestrating Simba’s attack, while Seleman Mwalimu added the second goal late in stoppage time to seal all three points.

Simba made a dream start, breaking the deadlock inside six minutes when Clatous Chama curled a corner directly into the net, leaving Mashujaa goalkeeper Patrick Munthali helpless and stunned.

Despite taking an early lead, Simba struggled to fully break down a disciplined Mashujaa defence marshalled by Samson Madeleke and Mohamed Salum.

The visitors registered more attacking intent as the half progressed, but neither side managed to create clear-cut chances before the break.

Mashujaa, coached by Jamhuri Kihwelo, returned from halftime with renewed urgency after making three changes, introducing Crispin Ngushi, Balama Mapinduzi and Dunia to inject pace and energy.

One of their brightest moments came through Ismail Mgunda, who came agonisingly close to equalising when his powerful strike hit the post before being cleared to safety.

Simba head coach Steven Barker responded with tactical changes, introducing Anicet Oura to add attacking width and control as Mashujaa pushed forward.

The visitors’ pressure eventually opened gaps, and Simba punished them in the 70th minute when Chama finished clinically after a well-delivered assist from Ellie Mpanzu, taking his league tally to eight goals.

Deep into stoppage time, Seleman Mwalimu completed the scoring after coming off the bench, finishing calmly in the 90+3 minute to confirm Simba’s dominance.

The victory extends Simba’s strong record against Mashujaa, marking their sixth consecutive league win over the Kigoma-based side, while also handing Mashujaa their first home defeat of the season.

With only a handful of matches remaining, Simba now turn their attention to a crucial run-in that includes Coastal Union, Dodoma Jiji, Pamba Jiji, Mbeya City, Mtibwa Sugar, Singida Black Stars and KMC a fixture list that could decide the destiny of the title.
