Dar es Salaam. Young Africans continued their impressive run in the CRDB Federation Cup after securing a comfortable 2-0 victory today, May 16, 2026 over JKT Tanzania to book a place in the semi-finals for the fifth consecutive season.
The highly anticipated quarter-final clash, played at the Meja Isamuhyo Stadium in Mbweni, had been tipped as a difficult encounter for Yanga due to their poor record at the venue.
However, the Jangwani giants silenced all doubts with a dominant display from start to finish.
The match also marked Yanga’s first outing since suffering a shock 3-2 defeat to Dodoma Jiji FC in the Mainland Premier League their first league loss of the season.
Determined to bounce back strongly, the reigning champions delivered a professional performance full of confidence and composure.
One of the biggest talking points before kick-off was the absence of club captain Bakari Mwamnyeto, who missed out completely from the squad.
His place in defence was taken by Frank Assinki, and the defender stepped up brilliantly with a composed and commanding performance at the back.
Yanga opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after JKT defender Hassan Wahabi accidentally turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a dangerous cross from Chadrack Boka.
Buoyed by the opener, Yanga continued to press forward and doubled their lead six minutes later through Mudathir Yahya.
The midfielder calmly slotted home after receiving a superb assist from the ever-creative Pacome Zouzoua, leaving the JKT goalkeeper with no chance.
The two goals gave Yanga full control of the match heading into the break, with the Tanzanian champions looking sharp in attack and solid defensively.
In the second half, Yanga maintained their dominance and created several more chances through Dube, Okello and Boka, although a lack of clinical finishing prevented the scoreline from becoming even more convincing.
The victory means Yanga have now eliminated JKT Tanzania from the competition for the second straight season, having also beaten them 2-0 in last season’s semi-final clash.
Attention now turns to the remaining quarter-final fixtures as Yanga await the winner between Mashujaa FC and Azam FC to determine their semi-final opponents.
Elsewhere, Coastal Union also progressed to the semi-finals after defeating Singida Black Stars 4-2 on penalties following a goalless draw in normal time at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.
They will now face either Simba SC or Tanzania Revenue Authority FC, who are set to meet at the KMC Complex.
