Insurance firms urged to drive Tanzania’s National Vision 2050

The Commissioner of Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of TIRA, Dr Baghayo Saqware, issued these guidelines during a working tour of domestic insurance institutions

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) has urged insurance companies across the country to take a leading role in executing the National Development Vision 2050.

The Commissioner of Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of TIRA, Dr Baghayo Saqware, issued these guidelines during a working tour of domestic insurance institutions.

The visit forms part of a broader push to align the financial services sector with the nation’s long-term economic agenda.

Dr Saqware also urged insurers to educate more Tanzanians on financial protection and drive the widespread adoption of insurance products to elevate living standards.

As part of his itinerary, Dr Saqware visited the Kinondoni headquarters of Reliance Insurance in Dar es Salaam.

There, he met with executive leaders to map out how insurers can directly support national development goals.

Chief Financial Officer of Reliance Insurance, Ms Flora Makule, assured the regulator that her firm fully supports the Vision 2050 goals.

She announced that the company will launch targeted outreach campaigns to reach underserved communities that currently lack access to basic insurance literacy and products.

Shaheed Dhanani, representing the Reliance Insurance Board of Directors, praised the visit for providing a constructive platform to evaluate market challenges, successes, and emerging opportunities.

He stressed that stronger cooperation among key stakeholders will remain vital as the sector works to expand financial security to all Tanzanians.

The government expects the insurance sector to serve as a primary engine for Vision 2050 by safeguarding household finances, unlocking capital for investment, and sustaining long-term economic development.
