Dar es Salaam. Simba SC strengthened their NBC Premier League campaign with a crucial 2-0 victory over Ken Gold at the KMC Complex on Wednesday.
This win takes Simba to 31 points, pushing Singida Fountain Gate Stars, who have 30 points, down to third place.
Simba now have three games in hand over league leaders Azam FC, who sit at the top with 33 points.
Simba began the match on the front foot, dominating the first 20 minutes with relentless attacks but failing to convert their early chances.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Leonel Ateba calmly slotted home a penalty after midfielder Awesu Awesu was fouled inside the box by Ken Gold’s George Sangija.
Ateba doubled Simba’s lead in the 44th minute with a powerful header from a well-delivered corner by left-back Valentine Nouma, giving Simba a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Simba intensify their attacks, creating several goal-scoring opportunities, but their finishing let them down.
Ken Gold attempted to mount a comeback with counter-attacks, but Simba’s defense remained resolute, ensuring they secured all three points.
