Dar es Salaam. Defending champions Yanga SC reaffirmed their dominance in the Tanzanian Premier League with a resounding 5-0 victory over Fountain Gate FC in a thrilling match played this Sunday at the KMC Complex here in the city.
The emphatic win propelled Yanga to 39 points, narrowing the gap to league leaders Simba SC, who currently have 40 points.
Right from kickoff, Yanga asserted their superiority, dictating play and dominating every facet of the game.
It took just 15 minutes for Pacome Zouzoua to open the floodgates with a clinical finish.
The onslaught continued, with Mudathir Yahya doubling the lead in the 40th minute before Zouzoua struck again in the 45th, capping a scintillating first-half performance and sending Yanga into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The second half saw Yanga maintain their relentless pressure.
In the 51st minute, a defensive mix-up from Fountain Gate’s Jackson Shiga resulted in an own goal, further compounding their woes.
The final nail in the coffin came in the 87th minute when Clement Mzize unleashed a thunderous strike to seal the 5-0 rout.
Following the humiliating defeat, the Fountain Gate’s management announced the immediate dismissal of their entire technical bench, led by head coach Mohammed Muya.
The decision, according to the club, was necessitated by the team’s string of poor performances this season.
Speaking after the match, Yanga’s head coach Sead Ramovic heaped praise on his players for their exceptional display.
“The team delivered an outstanding performance today. I’m particularly impressed with how they executed our game plan, especially in pressing and transitioning quickly into attack,” he said.
Adding: “This win was crucial, and the players showed immense commitment and quality throughout.
“We know the journey ahead is tough, but we are confident in our ability to achieve our objectives this season.”
Meanwhile, Muya, who was dismissed right after the match, acknowledged the overwhelming quality of the Yanga squad.
“Young Africans have invested massively, and their quality of players has made the difference in the result,” he stated.
This commanding victory solidifies Yanga’s reputation as a formidable force in the league and sends a strong warning to their rivals, particularly Simba SC, that the title race is far from over.
