Dodoma. Officials from Zambia’s Rural Electrification Authority (REA), led by Chief Executive Officer Mr Alex Mbumba, have visited rural electrification projects in Chamwino District, Dodoma Region, to learn from Tanzania’s experience in expanding access to electricity.
The delegation toured Vikonje A hamlet and Chahwa Primary School on June 24, 2026.
They observed how Tanzania is implementing electricity projects in rural areas and hamlets. The visitors also witnessed the role of reliable power supply in supporting social and economic activities.
The visit formed part of an experience-sharing programme between REA Tanzania and REA Zambia.
The initiative focuses on exchanging knowledge on best practices in rural electrification and increasing the benefits of energy access for local communities.
Speaking after the tour, Mr Mbumba said the visit had provided an important opportunity to understand the institutional structure of REA Tanzania and exchange technical expertise.
He said the delegation had also gained first-hand experience of how rural electrification projects are implemented effectively.
“One of the key lessons we have learned is that we share the same objective. We want electricity to be more than a social service. We want it to become a catalyst for economic activities in the communities we serve,” said Mr Mbumba.
REA Tanzania Rural Electrification Projects Supervising Manager, Mr Deogratius Nagu, said rural electricity projects have made a significant contribution to improving the lives of citizens.
He noted that electricity has created opportunities for income-generating activities and strengthened social services.
He added that the education sector has particularly benefited, as pupils now enjoy a better learning environment supported by a reliable power supply.
According to Mr Nagu, improved access to electricity is helping schools enhance academic performance while creating new opportunities for community development and economic growth.
