Dodoma. Tanzania has confirmed its participation in the World Expo 2025, which is scheduled to take place from April 12 to October 13, 2025 on Yumeshima Island in Osaka, Japan.
Speaking today, April 8, 2025 the minister for Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jafo, said the global event offers Tanzania a platform to showcase its trade and investment potential in key sectors.
The event will be held on Yumeshima Island under the theme Empowering Communities for Sustainable Living.
Tanzania will participate under the sub-theme Connecting Lives, a concept that reflects the country’s ambitions to strengthen links between local production and international markets, attract foreign investment, expand infrastructure, and promote tourism.
Dr Jafo said the expo presents an opportunity to highlight investment opportunities in priority areas such as health, energy and mining, agriculture, tourism and hospitality, the blue economy, arts and culture, creative industries, and trade-related infrastructure.
“Our participation in this expo will help position Tanzania as a competitive destination for trade and investment,” he said.
He listed the key objectives of Tanzania’s participation as attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), strengthening trade ties with Japan and other countries, promoting the country’s tourism attractions, fostering infrastructure development, and facilitating business linkages through high-level engagements with global investors.
A key feature of the country’s engagement will be Tanzania Day, which is scheduled for 25 May 2025 and will be officiated by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.
The day will include an investment forum with sector-specific presentations, cultural performances, and business-to-business sessions to connect Japanese and Tanzanian enterprises. A high-level business conference will follow on 26 May 2025.
Coordination of Tanzania’s participation involves multiple stakeholders, including the ministry of Industry and Trade, the ministry of Trade and Industrial Development of Zanzibar, the ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation through the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade).
Dr Jafo urged Tanzanian businesses, investors, and institutions to register through official platforms, including a QR code published in local media outlets.
“This is a unique opportunity for both public and private actors to raise the country’s profile on a global stage,” he said.
Expo 2025 Osaka is expected to attract millions of visitors and investors from around the world.
Dr Jafo said Tanzania’s presence would help the country diversify its export markets, attract new investment in infrastructure and technology, and boost tourism in the post-Covid era.
Preparations are under way to ensure the country leaves a strong impression and positions itself as one of Africa’s leading investment destinations.
