Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba, has directed the Ministry of Energy to speed up the expansion of the national natural gas distribution network to meet the country’s growing demand.
Speaking on Monday, February 9, 2026, during the inauguration of Puma Energies’ Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mother Station in Salasala, Dar es Salaam, Dr Mwigulu emphasised that widespread access to natural gas would ease operational costs for machinery and other energy uses, while also helping the Government reduce foreign currency expenditure on fuel imports.
“The Ministry of Energy should continue to accelerate exploration activities so that natural gas becomes an everyday energy source for all Tanzanians. I urge citizens to fully embrace the opportunities provided by the availability of processed natural gas,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that the new facility, built at an estimated cost of Sh13 billion, aligns with the implementation of the National Energy Policy and the National Development Vision 2050.
He added that it also reflects the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan to harness energy resources, particularly natural gas, as a catalyst for industrial growth, transportation, and electricity generation.
Dr Mwigulu described the project as a significant step towards realising the national strategy for clean, safe, affordable, and reliable energy, supporting Tanzania’s socio-economic development.
“By undertaking this project, Puma Energies has actively backed the President’s efforts to build a nation that utilises clean energy efficiently,” he said.
He further stated that the Government would continue improving the investment climate by ensuring stable policies, investor-friendly regulatory systems, transparent decision-making, and close collaboration between public institutions and the private sector.
