Singida BS end probe on ‘match-fixing’ allegations against Obasogie

Singida. Singida Black Stars have ended their probe into match-fixing allegations that earlier prompted the three-month suspension of the club’s goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie today.

The Nigerian international goalkeeper had raised concern following the outcomes of matches against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup, as well as NBC Premier League fixtures against Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC.

In a statement released on Saturday, March 7, 2026 and signed by the club’s management, Singida Black Stars said it had taken swift action to investigate the matter in order to protect the integrity of the team and the competitions involved.

“Singida Black Stars Club would like to inform the public that there had been concerns among the leadership, fans and stakeholders following repeated errors in some of our recent matches,” part of the statement read.

As a result, the club’s management through the Disciplinary Committee initiated a preliminary investigation into the allegations surrounding the team’s goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie.

The move was aimed at establishing whether there were any indications of match-fixing or unsporting conduct in the matches in question.

The statement further explained that the preliminary investigation was conducted by considering the player’s defence alongside verified information from the club’s General Manager.

The process was intended to establish the facts before any official action could be taken against the player.

After the completion of the preliminary investigation, the club stated that no evidence was found to suggest that match-fixing had occurred.

“The player’s defence together with verified information from the Club’s General Manager established that there is no evidence of match-fixing or any form of gambling-related misconduct,” the statement said.

The club also stressed that the incidents which raised concern were simply technical errors that can occur during football matches.

According to the statement, Obasogie has apologised for the circumstances that led to different interpretations among fans and football stakeholders.

Following the findings of the investigation, Singida Black Stars management has decided to revoke the earlier decision to suspend the player for three months.

This means that Obasogie is now allowed to return to the squad and continue with his duties as usual.
