The meeting took place at the Serengeti District Council offices over the weekend.

It brought together major stakeholders to build a shared understanding of the direction of the strategic project.

The airport is expected to strengthen the aviation and tourism sectors in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the ministry of Transport, Director of Infrastructure, Mr Shomari Shomari, said the ministry would ensure that implementation proceeds according to the approved schedule.

TAA director general Mr Abdul Mombokaleo described the project as a key driver of national economic growth.

He noted that the airport would support tourism in the Serengeti, one of the world’s leading attractions.

This would ease access for tourists and investors.

He further explained that the design also considers the availability of complementary services such as hotels and commercial facilities, beyond aircraft operations.

PSSSF director general Mr Fortunatus Magambo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to financing the project.

He said the fund remains focused on investing in large infrastructure projects that deliver national benefits.

He added that the airport project carries significant economic and social potential for residents of the Serengeti area and the country at large.

Serengeti District executive director, Dr Maulid Madeni, expressed readiness from local authorities and residents to support implementation.

He stressed the importance of addressing social and environmental considerations to ensure local communities benefit from the development.

Saba Company, serving as the project consultant, presented the proposed airport design during the meeting.

The firm stated that the design complies with international standards.

It is intended to support modern operations and handle a large number of passengers.

The meeting also provided a platform for discussion and exchange of views among stakeholders from various institutions.

These included the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), the National Environment Management Council (NEMC), the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), and Azania Bank.

Participants agreed on joint strategies to ensure timely implementation and delivery of the project to the required standards.
