Tanzania’s Energy Ministry credits M&E Unit for project delivery

The ministry of Energy continues to conduct quarterly performance evaluations to assess the implementation of responsibilities across institutions and departments under the ministry

Dodoma. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Felchesmi Mramba, has said the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit has played a major role in improving the implementation and supervision of energy projects.

Speaking at the ministry’s offices in Dodoma, Mr Mramba said the unit has strengthened accountability, efficiency and close supervision of strategic projects implemented under the ministry.

He said the monitoring and evaluation system has enabled the government to effectively oversee several major projects.

They include the 220KV power transmission project for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) electric train from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) and the Kishapu solar power project in Shinyanga Region.

Mr Mramba said the achievements demonstrate the importance of having a strong monitoring and evaluation unit to ensure government projects are implemented on time, meet required standards and deliver value for public money.

He added that the ministry of Energy continues to conduct quarterly performance evaluations to assess the implementation of responsibilities across institutions and departments under the ministry.

According to Mr Mramba, the system has helped identify high-performing employees and institutions. Those performing well are given special incentives to boost morale, accountability and productivity in public service.

Meanwhile, Chief Government Statistician from the Prime Minister’s Office, Exavery Salira, said the government is continuing to strengthen monitoring systems for public institutions to ensure compliance with established directives and guidelines.
