Nyamo-Hanga was on his way from Mwanza to Bunda.
According to Mara Regional Police Commander, Mr Pius Lutumo, the accident occurred at 1:30 am in Bunda.

Both the driver and his passenger died at the scene.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Bunda District Designated Hospital as authorities awaited further arrangements and official procedures.
“I also convey my condolences to Tanesco employees, as well as to the families and friends of the late Nyamo-Hanga and Haule” President Samia’s brief condolence message reads in part.
She prayed for the Almighty God to rest their souls in eternal peace.
A stellar career in Tanzania’s energy sector
Eng Nyamo-Hanga had been instrumental in several key national energy initiatives.
As Tanesco MD he played a central role in the successful completion of the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project (JNHPP), the country’s most ambitious power project, located in Rufiji District, Coast Region.
All the nine turbines at the JNHPP are now fully operational, feeding 2,115 megawatts of electricity into the national grid daily.
The massive Sh6.6 trillion project, which had been on the drawing board for decades, officially commenced construction in April 2019.
On April 5, 2025, just days before his passing, Eng Nyamo-Hanga had accompanied Deputy Prime Minister Dr Biteko and other senior government officials during a site inspection tour to announce the completion of the project.
Those who witnessed the occasion recall the engineer’s pride and elation.
At his appointment as Tanesco’s MD by President Samia on September 26, 2023, Eng Nyamo-Hanga distinguished himself by helping the country overcome acute power shortages.
At the time of his appointment, the nation was grappling with a prolonged six-month power rationing crisis.
Under his leadership, Tanesco quickly mobilised resources and implemented interventions that brought the blackouts to an end.
Before joining Tanesco, Eng Nyamo-Hanga served in various senior capacities at the Rural Energy Agency (REA) from 2008 to 2019.
These included serving as the manager of Technical Assistance, director of Market Development and Technologies, director general of REA, chief executive officer of the Rural Energy Fund (REF), and secretary to the Rural Energy Board (REB).
He also worked with the Tanzania Buildings Agency (TBA) in Dodoma, where he was responsible for overseeing operations at the New Debating Chamber of the Parliament of Tanzania.
His legacy, especially in strengthening Tanzania’s energy infrastructure and expanding rural electrification, remains indelible.
