Tanzania issues Middle East travel advisory to its nationals

The ministry urged citizens to defer non-essential travel to affected areas until the situation stabilises

Dar es Salaam. The government of Tanzania has issued a formal travel advisory urging its citizens to exercise extreme caution amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East.

The warning follows intensifying military confrontation involving the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other.

The conflict has seen coordinated air strikes by the United States and Israel targeting Iranian military facilities, followed by retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran.

The exchange has heightened security risks across parts of the Gulf region.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the government said it was “closely monitoring the evolving security situation with serious concern.”

“Tanzanian nationals residing in or travelling to countries in the Middle East are strongly advised to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety,” the statement said.

The ministry urged citizens to defer non-essential travel to affected areas until the situation stabilises.

Those already in the region were advised to limit unnecessary movements and strictly comply with security directives issued by host authorities.

The statement further directed Tanzanians in distress to immediately contact the nearest Tanzanian diplomatic mission.

In the Gulf States, assistance is available at Tanzania’s embassies in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait City and Muscat.

“Citizens are encouraged to maintain regular contact with our diplomatic missions for updates and necessary consular support,” the ministry stated.

Tanzania also called for restraint and de-escalation.

“The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania reiterates its call for peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy,” the statement added.

Thousands of Tanzanians live and work across the Gulf region, particularly in domestic services, construction, hospitality and logistics.

The advisory underscores growing concern that a prolonged conflict could disrupt transport links, commercial operations and civilian safety.

The government affirmed that it remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of its nationals abroad as the situation continues to unfold.
